Professional Single Track Mastering for Independent Artists

The final polish that transforms a great mix into a commercial record. We provide precision sonic balancing and loudness optimisation to ensure your track translates perfectly across all playback systems, from club stacks to smartphone speakers.

Professional analog mastering equipment with knobs and dials in a studio

Mastering is the critical final stage of music production. It is not simply about making a track louder; it is about the surgical application of EQ, dynamic control, and stereo imaging to create a cohesive, competitive sound. At Banaedgezen, we approach single track mastering as a blend of technical science and artistic intuition, ensuring that the emotional intent of your mix is preserved while meeting the rigorous technical standards of modern distribution.

Operating from our dedicated control room in Melbourne, we utilise a hybrid workflow combining the warmth of analogue hardware with the precision of digital tools. Whether you are releasing a standalone single or preparing a lead track for a larger project, our goal is to provide a master that sounds expensive, polished, and ready for the global stage. We focus on the micro-details of the frequency spectrum to remove masking and enhance the perceived depth of your audio.

The Mastering Workflow

01

Analysis & Evaluation

We begin by critically listening to your mix on our ATC SCM25A and Genelec 8341A monitoring systems. We identify frequency imbalances, dynamic peaks, and potential phase issues that could hinder the final master.

02

Tonal Shaping

Using high-precision EQ, we carve out muddiness and add "air" to the high end. We ensure the low-end is tight and focused, providing the necessary punch for club environments without overwhelming smaller speakers.

03

Dynamic Control

We apply a series of compressors and limiters to stabilise the dynamic range. This process glues the track together, ensuring consistent energy levels and achieving the target LUFS for your specific genre.

04

Final Export & QC

The track undergoes a final quality control check for clicks, pops, or digital clipping. We then render the high-resolution master files and provide a loudness report for your records.

Who is this service for?

Our single track mastering service is specifically designed for independent artists, bedroom producers, and small labels who have a completed mix but lack the acoustic environment or high-end monitoring required for the final stage. If you find that your tracks sound great in headphones but "collapse" in a car or on a large system, professional mastering is the solution.

It is ideal for those releasing a single to Spotify, Apple Music, or SoundCloud who need their audio to compete with professional releases in terms of perceived loudness and clarity. We work across various genres, from electronic and hip-hop to indie and pop, adapting our approach to the sonic characteristics of each style.

How the online collaboration works

Since we operate as an online studio, the process is streamlined for efficiency. Once you book the service, you upload your mix via a secure link. We review the file and confirm it meets our technical requirements. After the initial mastering pass, you receive a high-quality preview for evaluation.

Communication is handled via email, allowing for a clear paper trail of requests. You can request adjustments based on the three included revision rounds. Once the final version is approved, the high-resolution files are delivered to you digitally. For clients in Melbourne, we can arrange a scheduled session in our control room for a final personal listen-through by appointment.

Technical Requirements for Input

To achieve a professional result, the quality of the input file is paramount. We cannot "fix" a bad mix, but we can certainly enhance a good one. Please ensure your file adheres to the following specifications:

  • Format: WAV or AIFF (no MP3s for mastering).
  • Sample Rate: 44.1kHz or higher.
  • Bit Depth: 24-bit or 32-bit float.
  • Headroom: Please leave at least -6dB of peak headroom. Do not use a limiter on your master bus.
  • Panning: Ensure your mix is balanced and free of extreme phase issues.

Providing a rough demo or a reference track that you admire helps us understand the target aesthetic and loudness you are aiming for.

What is included in the delivery

Upon completion and approval, you will receive a professional delivery package containing the following assets:

  • A high-resolution WAV file (24-bit) for distribution.
  • A high-quality MP3 (320kbps) for quick sharing and review.
  • A detailed loudness report including integrated LUFS and True Peak measurements.
  • Clear instructions on how to upload these files to your distributor.
  • Optional instrumental version if provided in the original stems.
  • Confirmation of final peak levels to ensure no clipping occurs during distribution.

Turnaround times and deadlines

Our average turnaround time is 5 business days from the moment the files are received and the deposit is paid. This window allows us to let the track "sit" for a day, ensuring we approach the final master with fresh ears, which is essential for objective quality control.

If you are on a tight deadline for a release, we offer a rush service. A rush fee of 30% is applied to the standard rate, and we will prioritise your track in our queue to deliver the first pass within 48 hours. All timelines are subject to the responsiveness of the client during the revision phase.

What is NOT included

It is important to distinguish mastering from mixing. The following services are not part of the single track mastering package:

  • Mixing: We do not adjust individual track levels, pan individual instruments, or apply effects to separate stems.
  • Vocal Tuning: Pitch correction and timing adjustments must be completed during the mixing stage.
  • Arrangement Advice: We do not suggest changes to the song structure or composition.
  • Artwork/Distribution: We provide the audio files; we do not handle the actual upload to streaming platforms or design cover art.

If your mix requires significant changes, we recommend our Single Track Mixing service before proceeding to mastering.

Pricing and GST

Our pricing is transparent and inclusive of all professional monitoring and hardware costs. For Australian clients, Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 10% is applied to the base rate. We require a 50% deposit to secure your slot in the production queue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need professional mastering if I have a good mix?

Yes. A mix is about the relationship between instruments; mastering is about the relationship between your song and the rest of the music in the world. Professional mastering ensures your track has the correct tonal balance and loudness to compete on playlists without sounding distorted or thin.

What happens if I'm not happy with the first master?

We include 3 rounds of revisions in the standard price. You can provide specific feedback (e.g., "less bass in the low-mids" or "slightly more brightness"), and we will adjust the master until it meets your vision.

Can you master a track from an MP3 file?

We strongly advise against this. MP3s are lossy formats that remove audio data. Mastering an MP3 amplifies the compression artefacts, leading to a poor final result. Please provide a 24-bit WAV file for professional results.

Who owns the rights to the master?

You retain 100% of the rights to your music. Banaedgezen provides a technical service; we do not claim any ownership, royalties, or publishing rights over the material we process.
